Fingermouse is a small web application development and design business based near Nottingham, UK.
Many jobs are handled by just one developer who will liaise with you directly and meet to discuss your needs.
Additional development support is brought in when necessary but clients still maintain a single point of contact.
I'm Simon Jamie and I founded Fingermouse in 1999 after working as a web designer/developer with a series of small companies who were focused more on quantity than quality. I was determined that I could do better for clients and provide something of real value rather than just template-based content churned out as quickly as possible.
I have extensive experience programming in Ruby, Java, PHP, JavaScript and Perl, and I've worked with various database systems such as MySQL to PostgreSQL. I've worked with websites since 1994 when things were much more basic, and I learnt HTML developing pages to be viewed on early versions of NCSA Mosaic running on AIX machines.
I originally studied Geophysics and have a BSc in Geophysical Sciences, although I find very few clients need much seismology, geomagnetic or vulcanology work in their day-to-day business. More useful is my MSc in Multimedia Engineering and my NVQs in Programming in C. I also studied Ruby on Rails development under Jim Weirich (the creator of Rake) at EdgeCase in Edinburgh. My design experience is through over 30 years of designing and illustrating for clients, as well as writing and illustrating my own series of children's books.
I've worked with music and video in professional and semi-professional environments and have performed live in front of thousands of people, singing and playing keys, guitar, bass and drums. I've set up professional audio systems and worked with live mixing as well as multi-camera installations and live switching. I've been involved in procurement of equipment for a number of organisations, building dedicated solutions to audio and video requirements.
The name Fingermouse was chosen to be memorable and to stir memories (for those of the right age) of Fingerbobs, a 1970s BBC TV series. Fingermouse is not connected in any way with the BBC.
I develop websites and design print materials for a range of businesses and individuals across the UK and Europe. I'm always ready to discuss new projects and, on the rare occasion I can't help with something, I can usually direct you towards somebody in my network who can.
Pricing is based on the value that I provide and you'll never be charged more than a fair rate for our services. I generally charge by the hour but can provide fixed quotes for jobs with detailed specs. My clients return to me time and again so I must be doing something right.
No job is too small and I aim for the highest possible quality. See some of our work here or get in touch to find out more.
